Life sure takes you on many journeys. Some people travel their entire lives, always restless, never settling down. Others, are resolved to lead a quiet life--if only they could escape....someday....
Well, my someday finally arrived.
I am 62, from a small town on the New Jersey shore and a widow.
In July of 2011, 2 and a half years after my husband had died, I reconnected with a old high school classmate, Chip. He is divorced and living in West Palm Beach, Fl. After chatting and skyping for months, I flew to Florida for 19 days. By April 1st, I had put my condo on the market and moved to West Palm Beach.
Well, as it turns out, my friend Chip is a fantastic cook. Not one of those over the top, crazy, you gotta try this cook; but a true 5-star steak and seafood and basic home cooked flavor.
And, as it turns out he is a fabulous chili cook. And he enters chili contests and competitons. Best effort to date is second in a large cookoff of more than 300 competitors.
Now I have never been big on chili. I never chilied up a hot dog. Nor did I choose my spices carefully to jazz up a dish.
But now I know what I have been missing.....the very best chili in the world.
Tomorrow.....our exciting first meeting in 43 years....and....more on the world of chili.
